We are continuously improving and expanding our games, and now it’s Pool’s turn. This is a major update where many elements have been changed in various ways: the shop has been redesigned to make it easier to find what you want to buy, it’s easier to choose a city in City Challenge, there are once again rewards for playing in cities, cues can now earn bronze, silver, and gold frames, rating has been replaced with a new rank system, a fixed tournament cue has been introduced, new highscore lists added, and last but not least, it’s now possible to add spin to the cue ball.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown of the biggest changes:
Spin:
You can now apply spin to your shot by clicking on the spin dial located at the bottom center of the table.
When you click the dial, the red dot will move and the aim line will adjust according to how much spin is applied to the ball. How much spin you can apply depends on your cue. All cues now have a new spin stat, which indicates how much spin they can apply. This stat can be upgraded along with the others (power, aim, time).
If you move the red dot upwards, it will apply follow-through spin, making the cue ball follow the object ball. Moving it downwards can make the cue ball stop or draw back.
Moving the dot to the sides will make the cue ball curve gently — perfect for getting around balls that are in the way.
In addition to clicking on the dial to change spin, you can also use the arrow keys or your mouse scroll wheel. Clicking the right mouse button will reverse the scroll direction for moving the red dot.
Cue Wins:
We’ve added a counter that shows how many times you’ve won using a specific cue. The more wins you get, the better the frame around the number. It starts with a brown frame, which then upgrades to bronze, silver, and finally gold.
Since cue wins haven’t been saved before, everyone starts from 0. Who will be the first to earn gold frames on all their cues?
Shop Design:
The shop was getting long and hard to navigate, so it's now been divided into four tabs: Special Offers, Gold Balls, Chips & Chalk Exchange. It should now be much easier to find what you’re looking to buy.
City Challenge:
City Challenge was also hard to navigate, as you could only see one city at a time. Now you can see multiple cities, scroll between them, and click the one you want to play. Cities now also have a frame that can be upgraded to bronze, silver, and gold by winning there.
Once you’ve collected all clovers and won the city’s cue, you’ll get a bronze frame. Playing through with a bronze frame unlocks a new reward and upgrades the frame to silver. Similarly, the silver and gold frames can be played through to earn additional rewards. Once the gold frame is completed, there are no more rewards from that city — it will be considered complete.
Shark Ranks:
The rating system was never a success in Pool, so it has now been replaced with a brand-new system. Your skill in Pool is now reflected in rank levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Each level has 10 Roman numerals and ranks up via so-called “Sharks.”
You rank up 1 level per win, and you do not rank down on losses. The progression looks like this:
Bronze I
Bronze II
...
Bronze X
Silver I
Silver II
...
Silver X
Gold I
Gold II
...
Gold X
Platinum I
Platinum II
...
Platinum X
Diamond I
Diamond II
...
Diamond X
After Diamond X, you reset back to Bronze I but gain a Shark. Your progression will now look like this:
Shark 1, Bronze I
Shark 1, Bronze II
...
Shark 1, Diamond X
Shark 2, Bronze I
Shark 2, Bronze II
...
Shark 2, Diamond X
There is no upper limit to the number of Sharks you can earn, so over time some of you will reach very high Shark levels.
Note: this system is not used for matchmaking.
Tournament Cue:
In all tournaments, players now use a fixed cue — the “Ruby” cue. It is fully upgraded for everyone, regardless of your own Ruby cue progress. This ensures everyone has equal conditions in tournament play. If you wish to practice with this cue outside of tournaments, you must unlock and upgrade it yourself.
Highscore Lists:
Finally, we’ve added three new highscore lists:
We hope you enjoy the update — have fun playing Pool!
